Exeter University's Semi-Toned Choir review

They’re here! The winners of Gareth Malone’s ‘Best in Britain Choir’ are right under our noses.

The Exeter Uni lads attracted the attention of many after the news was released that they had won the sensational singing competition.

The A ccapella boys, ranging from 18 to 23 years old, showed off their enthusiasm and quirkiness whilst they performed at The Terrace restaurant in early December.

Their unique style and smart attire of red velvet jackets, give them a great platform to stand on in terms of being different as well as fun. Each member in the group reflects...

Singers like alternative to choir

"We are not a choir" say the ads that, for the past 10 years, have been attracting people to Forever Young Sing for Fun.

Many people who come also sing with formal choirs but like the informal Sing for Fun sessions.

Early in 2007, the new St Sidwell's School, York Road, Exeter opened its doors and Forever Young were the first community group to use the new hall.

Ten years later, the school's new Acting Headteacher, Mr Tom Page, welcomed Forever Young as they began another singing evening.

Meeting on a Monday, 7-9pm, singers choose from over 600 backing...

English National Opera debut for former Exeter Chorister

An opera singer from Devon who started his musical life as a Chorister in Exeter Cathedral Choir made his debut with English National Opera earlier this week.

David Webb, who sang with the Cathedral Choir in the 1990s, made his ENO debut in Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde on 9th June in a new production conducted by Edward Gardner. In a recent interview with Toby Deller he speaks fondly of his time in Exeter Cathedral Choir, then under the direction of Lucian Nethsingtha.

A Musical Tea Party

Be a Chorister for a day

Following previous successful Chorister Open Days, Exeter Cathedral is hosting a similar opportunity for children on Saturday 28th November 2015. This is open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 9 who enjoy singing.
