People are being warned about the dangers of swimming in or jumping into rivers or canals. The warning comes from Exeter City Council as the schools break up for the summer holidays. It follows a spate of incidents where people have been jumping into the Exeter Canal, some at Double Locks. Signs have been put up warning people about the dangers of drowning as well as the disturbance to wildlife. The move has been backed by the Fire Service and the Environment Agency. Exeter School is celebrating the opening of its new indoor pool.
Chairman of Governors and former pupil Andrew King officially opened the pool during a ceremony on 28 June.
A generous donation from an anonymous benefactor enabled Exeter School to build the first-class, 25-metre four-lane pool for the benefit of Exeter School pupils and local schoolchildren. The Governors agreed to match fund the donation in order to integrate the pool fully with the existing sports facilities.

Exeter City Swimming Club had a hugely successful South West Regional event this year with more of its swimmers than ever achieving the qualifying times required to enter. In total 43 swimmers qualified with 39 swimmers taking part in 182 individual races, with 47 finals being swum and a total of 20 medals achieved.
