Missing teenager found safe and well

Update: 10.30am

Missing teenager Max Emery has been located safe and well.

The 17-year-old from Uffculme returned home at around 9.50am today (Wednesday 7 January).

Officers searched for Max after he was reported missing on Tuesday 6 January 2015.

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance.

Bingo nights at Tiverton Golf Club

Exeter residents are invited to bingo nights at Tiverton Golf Club, which are now open to the public.

The club's first bingo night of 2015 is on Friday 9 January (7.30pm).

Jim Bray, social committee chairman, said: "We've recently been granted a premises licence by the district council and this offers a great opportunity to open some of our events to the public and let them sample our excellent facilities.

"If you enjoy a game of bingo, we'd be delighted to welcome you for a fun, friendly and relaxing evening."

People in Exeter are being invited to a Burns Supper at Tiverton Golf Club.

The event – a traditional celebration of the life and works of Scottish poet Robert Burns – takes place on Friday 23 January (7pm for 7.30pm).

Tickets cost £25, to include an aperitif, starter, haggis taster, main course and sweet, followed by tea or coffee and mints.

Directors fined after dumper truck death

A 20-year-old man died on his first day at work for a new company when the four-tonne dumper he was driving toppled over a bank and crushed him.

Daniel Whiston, from Dulverton, was allowed to drive the dumper, which had a number of serious defects, before it overturned down the embankment at Sweetings Farm, near Tiverton, on 27 October 2009.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigated the incident, and prosecuted Mr Whiston’s employers, company directors William Friend and Robert Plume, at Exeter Crown Court today (22 Dec).

MP takes the first step towards becoming a Sea Change Champion

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, wore Healthy Seas socks made partly from recycled fishing nets this week in order to show support for World Animal Protections’ Sea Change campaign.

Aiming to reduce the amount of lost and discarded fishing gear that harms and entangles millions of animals, the charity asked MPs to support their move to achieve safer, cleaner oceans by raising awareness of innovative solutions such as socks from recycled fishing gear on social media.

Warning after Christmas decorations spark blaze... Cat and dog rescued...

Firefighters have urged residents to be extra cautious this Christmas after decorations started a blaze in a Tiverton flat last night.

No one was hurt in the incident but a dog and a cat had to be rescued, prompting a warning for people to follow advice issued by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue:

* Check your Christmas tree lights are in good working order and conform to the British Safety Standard. Never overload electrical sockets.

Witheridge parents stage budget bake off

Parents from Witheridge took part in a ‘budget bake off’ at Action for Children’s Oakmoor Children's Centre in Witheridge, Tiverton.

The session was the culmination of a Money Skills course, part of a national programme run by Barclays in partnership with charity Action for Children, which helps families and young people with budgeting and finance.
