A spectacular drive-through winter wonderland is coming to Exeter’s Westpoint Indoor Arena this Christmas.

Local business, Re:Fuel, will be creating the unique experience for families from all over the South West to enjoy. The company, well known for their “cars and coffee” style events in the South West, has had to close for most of the year due to Covid-19. So, they decided, rather than using the furlough scheme this Christmas, to use their event skills to spread some much-needed Christmas spirit and raise some money for a local charity. Lewis Carroll’s famous story, one of the best-loved books ever written, is magically brought to life by Exeter College’s BTEC Performing Arts Department.

Alice’s adventures lead her down the rabbit-hole, where she embarks on a magical journey through Wonderland meeting The Mad Hatter, The Mock Turtle, The Cheshire-Cat and even has time for a spot of flamingo croquet with the Queen of Hearts.

2015 is the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

To celebrate, RAMM is putting on a rather special Mad Hatter’s Tea Party headlined by The Carny Villains.

The seven-piece band plays two-step mash-ups of gypsy swing, ska and rockabilly, telling implausible tales from a weird burlesque world on the edge of reason; the perfect encapsulation of Lewis Carroll’s book.

There will also be jazzy DJs, walkabout theatre, exotic drinks and a Wonderland fancy dress theme.

Artist follows Alice to Wonderland

‘Lost Alice’, the new collection from surrealist artist Peter Smith celebrating 150 years of Alice in Wonderland, launched at Castle Fine Art, Exeter on Friday 2 October. Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s famous children’s novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass (1871), the series of six new oil paintings and four sculptures feature familiar characters including Alice, the Hatter, the Caterpillar and the White Rabbit. Yet this ‘Wonderland’ is also unfamiliar – a place that is now under threat from Alice's last visit when she left behind seven sins...
