Alert issued as more rain forecast

Residents were today (MONDAY) warned to be on alert after further heavy, persistent rain was expected to move across southwest England. Although the more persistent rain should clear from Devon by early afternoon, heavy and possibly thundery showers are likely to follow.

Please be prepared for disruption to transport due to localised flooding, whilst flooding of homes and businesses is also possible.

Some 20-30 mm of rain is expected fall in a 3-6 hour period in places, and a low risk of this falling in 1-2 hours. There could be as much as 40-60 mm possible locally through...

Fatstock Show plus Military Wives concert

Sheep and the wool trade first brought wealth to the South Molton district during the 17th century and indeed the town’s emblem still incorporates a ram at its heart. Even today there are more sheep per acre in this area than anywhere else in the world! So what could be more appropriate than having wool as the theme of this year’s Christmas Fatstock Show, which runs from 10.00am – 4.00pm on Sunday 7 December.

And to increase the appeal of the event, The Military Wives will be performing from 6.30pm on the same evening.

Second incident on the A361

After a fatal car accident on the A361 at 11am, a further incident has resulted in a male being air lifted to hospital.

Firefighters were called again to the A361, specifically Borners Bridge, at 1.06pm after reports of a road traffic collision.

On arrival crews confirmed there was an RTC involving two vehicles with one male trapped severely.

Crews got to work trying to release the casualty using cutting gear, hirst kit and small tools.

The casualty was taken to hospital via air ambulance.

His medical status is currently unknown.

Fatal car accident in South Molton

A car accident that took place on the A361, just North of South Molton, earlier today has resulted in a member of the public being pronounced dead at the scene

The incident, involving two vehicles, also resulted in two other casualties being air lifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Police and other emergency services attended the scene, with the accident believed to have taken place at 11am.

The road is expected to be closed for some time whilst the thorough police investigation takes place.

Jewellery worth £5,000 stolen in burglary

Police in north Devon are appealing for information after £5,000 worth of jewellery was stolen during a burglary at an elderly woman’s South Molton home.

The woman in her 80s, discovered her house had been burgled after returning from a holiday visiting family in Australia.

More than 20 items (pictured), including a wedding ring and eternity ring, were taken from the house in North Road sometime between the early hours of Sunday 30 March and 7pm on Sunday 1 June.

It is believed the offender(s) entered the property by removing a glass panel on the locked front door....

The George Hotel, South Molton ( www.georgehotelsouthmolton.co.uk ) continues to delight, when it introduces one of the UK’s top comedians, Hal Cruttenden ( www.halcruttenden.com ), to its North Devon audience on Friday 9th May.

But maybe no such introductions are necessary, as Hal’s is a face which has already been plastered over the TV for some time and it might be easier to list what he has not appeared on!
