Sheep and the wool trade first brought wealth to the South Molton district during the 17th century and indeed the town’s emblem still incorporates a ram at its heart. Even today there are more sheep per acre in this area than anywhere else in the world! So what could be more appropriate than having wool as the theme of this year’s Christmas Fatstock Show, which runs from 10.00am – 4.00pm on Sunday 7 December.

A car accident that took place on the A361, just North of South Molton, earlier today has resulted in a member of the public being pronounced dead at the scene
The incident, involving two vehicles, also resulted in two other casualties being air lifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Police and other emergency services attended the scene, with the accident believed to have taken place at 11am.
The road is expected to be closed for some time whilst the thorough police investigation takes place.

Police in north Devon are appealing for information after £5,000 worth of jewellery was stolen during a burglary at an elderly woman’s South Molton home.
The woman in her 80s, discovered her house had been burgled after returning from a holiday visiting family in Australia.
More than 20 items (pictured), including a wedding ring and eternity ring, were taken from the house in North Road sometime between the early hours of Sunday 30 March and 7pm on Sunday 1 June.
It is believed the offender(s) entered the property by removing a glass panel on the locked front door....
