A truly spectacular and beautiful evening celebrating the spirit of Christmas is set to take place on 11 December when The Donkey Sanctuary Sidmouth presents their annual Christmas service, Carols by Candlelight.

The evening starts at 3.30pm when staff begin to light thousands of candles around the Sanctuary creating a magical atmosphere. Each candle represents a dedication from supporters to the memory of a loved one.

Visitors will be able to soak up the warm, welcoming ambiance around The Sanctuary before the main carol service which starts at 5pm in the Main Barn.

Hot drinks, mulled wine, mince pies and plenty of festive refreshments will be available at The Hayloft restaurant which will be open until 7pm. Christmas wreaths and candleholders will also be available to buy to help support the charity.

At 5pm, traditional Christmas Carols will be performed against a stunning backdrop of a nativity scene in the Main Barn. Santa is also rumoured to be dropping in at The Sanctuary during the evening,
