Exeter Library welcomes local author of unusual children’s book The Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of Pig!
As part of the Summer Reading Challenge, Exeter Library invites parents and children to meet Emer Stamp, author of sensational children’s book “The Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of Pig’ on Wednesday 10th August from 11am – 12noon.
Emer will be talking about creative writing and the main characters from her books as well as holding a 'How to draw' session where children can learn how to draw four of the main characters – not to be missed!
Emer Stamp grew up on a farm in Devon before training in graphic design and becoming the Creative Director for the advertising agency behind the John Lewis Christmas adverts. The Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of Pig was her debut novel. Unusually penned, this book is written in Pigish (pig language) instead of proper English and is amusing children across the country. The famous diarist Pig invites children to read about the farmyard where he lives introduces you to his pal Duck, as well as evil chickens amongst others!
Karen Leach-Bowdler from Exeter Library says, “We are so excited to welcome Emer to Exeter Library this summer. The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic time in our events calendar and we hold a range of activities for children at our libraries to inspire and encourage their reading, writing, and drawing skills- it is so lovely to see their excitement and creativity especially with such an animated book as Pig.”
Tickets are £1 and can be purchased from Exeter Library. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
This summer holiday Devon Libraries are challenging children of all ages to take part in their Summer Reading Challenge – part of a national programme coordinated by The Reading Agency.
Inspired by the works of Roald Dahl, and to celebrate his 100th birthday, this year’s theme is “The Big Friendly Read” and is aimed at children aged from 4 to 11. “The Big Friendly Read” is running in libraries across the Devon and it is completely free. Children are challenged to visit their local library and read 6 books through the holidays to earn rewards and on completion they receive a medal and certificate. As well as the challenge itself libraries across Devon are hosting events aimed at children, including craft mornings and activities days; see your local library for more details.
