Celebrating the First Anniversary of the official opening of the Walronds, Cullompton there will be a fantastic Tudor Fayre. After nearly 4 years under scaffold, on 13th June 2014 HRH The Duke of Gloucester officially opened the restored and renovated Walronds in Fore Street, Cullompton. In the intervening 12 months the house has been used by a large number of groups for a variety of purposes and volunteers have worked tirelessly in the gardens to provide a charming and relaxing space for the local community to enjoy.

To mark the anniversary, the Cullompton Walronds Preservation Trust is working with Exeter University’s History Department and local drama groups to bring this historic building back to life. Events start with ‘A Glimpse of Tudor Life’ on Saturday 20th June, a Tudor Fayre led by the University’s Dr. Freya Cox Jensen and Dr. Laura Sangha. The day will commence at 10.00am with the opening of the café, which will serve cakes and drinks as a precursor to the main event that officially opens at 11.00am. There will be talks and interactive research displays from world-class academics, relating to The Home and the Alehouse, Ghosts and Angels, Printing and Science, The Spanish Armada and Health, Beauty and Medicine. Tudor Dance workshops will be held at 11.30am and 15.30pm, and there will be an alehouse ballad session at 1.30pm. Additionally there will be Tudor Games, Costume Exhibitions and local arts and crafts stalls running throughout the day, making the event fun for the whole family. Entry is completely free. Whilst the daytime activities finish at 4.00pm the evening event commences at 7.30pm with a Tudor drama and a much-shortened version of Hamlet, complete with a buffet supper.

The evening event will cost £9.00 and a bar will be open.
