Devon business one of best in UK

An East Devon company set up less than a year ago, which is now providing work for more than 40 people, has been named as one of the best new businesses in the UK.

Dor-2-Dor Exeter, launched in November last year, was one of only seven shortlisted finalists in the best new business category at the National Entrepreneur Awards. With over 390 businesses nominated for awards across 10 categories, the National Entrepreneur Awards are highly regarded. Although he didn’t win first prize, owner Alan Marriott is still pleased the hard work is paying off.

Alan, from Ottery St Mary, said: “To be recognised as one of the best new businesses in the whole country is a tremendous honour. The awards event at the National Entrepreneurs Convention, at Birmingham’s ICC, was amazing. The guest speaker at the convention was Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who was simply inspiring.

“When I launched Dor-2-Dor Exeter I realised that to succeed we needed to do much more than just deliver leaflets. We had to prove to our customers that they could get new business. So I use the latest databases and software to help businesses target their messages to the customers they are most keen to reach. We can also take care of the design and print aspects so it is easier for our customers. Impact is maximised by getting the message looking right and aimed right.

“By taking this high-tech approach to leaflet delivery, one of the oldest forms of marketing and advertising, I now say that we don’t deliver leaflets, we deliver results.”

Alan started Dor-2-Dor Exeter in November last year when he returned to Devon after spending 26 years in New Zealand. The judges in the awards praised his innovative approach and were impressed that the company has grown every month since it launched.

Alan said: “Not only are we delivering results, we’re currently also providing work, full and part-time, for 47 people, which makes the success of the business doubly pleasing.”
