Exmouth’s newest retirement community officially opens its doors
Local retirees and their families have been celebrating the opening of Exmouth’s newest retirement community - McCarthy Stone’s Retirement Living Plus development, The Curlews on Merchant Avenue.
DevonAir’s Breakfast Show DJ, Ben Clark was invited to cut the ribbon at the Sparkling Opening event – which also welcomed The Curlews first group of homeowners – marking the beginning of a thriving new community.
Ben commented: “It’s been a real honour to officially open The Curlews and meet the new homeowners. It’s a fantastic development for Exmouth’s retirement community and the McCarthy Stone team have been incredibly helpful and friendly.”
Guests were treated to a glass of fizz and light refreshments freshly prepared by the talented culinary team at The Curlews on-site bistro, whilst listening to songs performed by alternative folk-music singer, songwriter and musician, Jodie Elms. The new homeowners were welcomed into their new, stylish apartments whilst prospective homeowners took a tour of the facilities The Curlews has to offer.
Verity McKay, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone, comments: “It was so special to celebrate the official opening of The Curlews with local Exmouth retirees and their families, as we welcomed in the first homeowners. It was also a real treat to have local superstars Ben and Jodie join us for the celebrations – with Ben cutting the ribbon and Jodie delivering an incredible musical performance for us all to enjoy. It certainly was a party to remember!
“Our Exmouth development offers a unique brand of retirement living, ensuring homeowners can enjoy an independent lifestyle within a vibrant and social community of like-minded people. This is something we’re incredibly proud of and hope retires got a taster of just that.”
Pairing low-maintenance, independent living with a selection of superb communal spaces, The Curlews will cater for the over 70s with 59 beautifully appointed retirement apartments, some of which have private balconies or patios. Homeowners will have access to fantastic facilities, including a communal lounge for socialising, a chef-run bistro serving freshly prepared meals daily, and a wellness zone with a hair and beauty salon.
For peace of mind, an Estate Management Team will be on-site around the clock to provide tailored domestic support and personal care to suit individual needs, granting retirees the independence they desire while ensuring support is readily available. Each property is also fitted with a 24/7 emergency call system, door camera entry, and an intruder alarm as standard.
A range of purchase options are available at The Curlews, such as the Shared Ownership scheme in partnership with Homes England, which allows retirees to enjoy the benefits of Retirement Living Plus without committing to the full purchase price. For example, retirees can pay just 50% of the property value of an apartment at the development, and monthly rent payable on the remaining 50%, with one-bedroom properties available from £135,000 and two-bedroom properties available from £182,500*.
More than nine out of 10 customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation. McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this rating every year it has taken part in the survey.
