Exeter Northcott Theatre launches summer season
Exeter Northcott Theatre is adding more live performances and theatre shows to its already packed programme of plays and comedy, dance and music events this year. Alongside a line-up of big hits including The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World, English Touring Opera’s La Bohème and BalletBoyz’s Deluxe, Exeter’s flagship theatre has announced:
Extraordinary Bodies’ Human
Human (17-18 June) is a hybrid piece of circus, film and music that explores life-changing events from the performer’s lives. Human is audio described, British Sign Language interpreted and captioned.
An urgent new play about the climate crisis
Northcott Associate Director Yusef Niazi collaborates with staff and students at the University of Exeter’s Drama Department to create climate change-focused Footprints (25-26 March). The play centres on the consequences of this crisis for young people, enabling them to participate in conversations about environmental responsibility.
A new take on historical events
Jeremiah (30 April) is a rap-based reinterpretation of the infamous Luddite rebellion created by Northcott Associate Artist Jack Dean.
World-class dance
Northcott Associate Artist Richard Chappell returns to the venue with dance programme UPLIFT (3 June), which features performances inspired by, and celebrates up-and-coming talent from, the South West and Wales. Ballet Cymru’s Dream (22 June), a vibrant adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream, rounds out the Northcott’s dance offering this season.
Live experiences for all the family
Zog and the Flying Doctors (1-3 July) joins the Northcott’s line-up of best-selling children’s book stage adaptations, which includes David Walliams’ heist-comedy Gangsta Granny (21-24 April) and Kate Pankhurst’s inspiring Fantastically Great Women (10-15 May). Dinosaur World Live (24-26 June) also offers children the chance to interact with Jurassic beasts.
