Cumberland Grange makes resident's 106th birthday wish come true

Resident, Joan at Cumberland Grange had a Birthday wish of going back to visit one of her most favourite places, Ilfracombe. So staff at the home made her wish a reality,

Joan has lived at Cumberland Grange since the summer of 2024 and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her Birthday wish come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to make sure that her 106th Birthday was an incredibly special day to mark such an amazing age.

Staff asked Joan what she wanted to do for her Birthday, as they would do everything they could to make whatever she wanted, happen! Without much deliberation, Joan told staff that she would love to take a trip down to her favourite place which holds very fond and special memories for her, Ilfracombe, where she was born and raised. Joan was also accompanied by her dear family and friends, who were there to share the beautiful day with her. Setting off for the busy day ahead, before stopping for lunch along the harbour front, they popped into the RNLI Station to meet the crew, as this is a charity close to Joan’s heart. Joan’s Father was once the President of Ilfracombe RNLI, so it was incredibly special for Joan to visit again after all of these years.

What a privilege it is to be celebrating Joan’s 106th Birthday with her. She is a truly remarkable lady who is very loved here. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.  It was wonderful to see how happy Joan was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
