Campaign launches to find families for overlooked children in care
A campaign, specifically to find families for local children who have been waiting the longest to be adopted, is launching across the south west this month.
Family for Me (FFM), which is part of south west adoption agency Families for Children, hopes to find parents for these children as soon as possible. Their wait may have been because they are older, part of a sibling group, have specialist needs, or are of mixed heritage.
Cat Gifford, Assessing Social Worker for FFM said:
“We are extremely excited about the Family for Me project. The project’s key objective is to create awareness of those children who wait the longest to be adopted and to encourage those people who feel they could give these specific children based locally, the loving family they deserve. As the assessing social worker I know the children very well, their history and what they are looking for and need from a family. No family is perfect but we need to ensure the all of the children’s needs can be met.”
Leo and Evie* are among the children seeking an adoptive family as part of the campaign. The four year old twins are described by their foster carers as a ʻjoy to care forʼ. Leo is confident and bright despite his cerebral palsy; Evie is bubbly and tells us she just wants a ‘sparkly’ mummy. It is obvious the twins are dependent on each other and need to be placed together.
Families for Children provide ongoing guidance throughout the adoption process and beyond with comprehensive adoption support services right up into adulthood.
The Family for Me campaign is backed by a radio advertising campaign and is being supported with a dedicated website www.familyforme.co.uk.
