Crediton woman knits 400 ducks for ELF

When Crediton volunteer, Lynne Cooper knitted her first duck for Exeter Leukaemia Fund back in March 2012, she had no idea that her creation would go on to be a global adventurer and that she would knit 400 more!

Lynne, who has supported ELF for several years, is also a very talented painter as well as a creative knitter. Despite her own illness, Lynne started knitting ducks to sell in the ELF charity shops as a thank you for the support her husband has received from ELF whilst undergoing treatment at the Haematology Centre.

Debbie Armstrong, ELF Retail Manager said of Lynne: “Lynne is an inspiration. Not only has Lynne had to contend with her husband’s health problems, recently Lynne has been very ill herself, but she always manages to keep smiling and cheery. As well as knitting over 400 ducks for adoption she is now knitting Christmas characters too.”

The first duck Lynne knitted was named Crisp P Duck by the ELF Team. Crispy as he likes to be known to his friends and his 400 offspring, nieces and nephews have travelled to many parts of the UK and worldwide with their new ‘owners. To meet the demand for our little feathered friends, Angela Hill of Torquay has also been frantically knitting away, and to date; Angela has knitted 90 ducks and characters.
