Silver for Event Exeter
A heady dose of elation and a real sense of camaraderie and achievement floats through the Event Exeter office this morning as the team have done it again.
Following the success of winning Gold in the Devon Tourism Awards hosted in one of Event Exeter’s own venues, the University’s Great Hall in November, the team has gone on to win silver in the Venue and Business Tourism category of the South West Tourism Awards held in Bristol last night.
The Event Exeter team made their way to Bristol as hopeful finalists, with tough competition from The Bristol Doyle and the Carbis Bay Hotel. The awards cover from Cornwall to Gloucester and this win highlights our successful approach to delivering international events and attracting visitors to the region.
The silver award fills the team with a determined afterglow, ready and eager to embark on upcoming events. In the last academic year, the team successfully delivered over 2450 different events with more than 29,000 conference delegates visiting the local area. Through use of the University facilities, we welcomed in excess of 4404 bed and breakfast guests to the Streatham Campus. So if that’s anything to go by, we are surely in for a busy year!
First and foremost, through this work, we are able to support the first-class teaching and research delivered by the University of Exeter. Any income generated through the use of the University’s event venues is reinvested into the campuses to further enhance the student, staff and visitor experience.
The influx of visitors to the area for these events in turn has a huge impact on the local economy through spend on transport, additional venues in the area, accommodation, food, drink and tourist attractions.
With another award under the team’s belt, it’s business as usual as we prepare for the business opportunities 2017 will present us. One thing’s for sure, we’ll be facing it with triumphant vigour.
