Approximately 40 per cent of children waiting for an adoptive family have impairment or some form of special need or disability. Thirty three children in Devon are currently waiting to be adopted, if adopters were available, says Devon County Council as it launches a campaign to encourage more prospective adopters.
Devon County Council's Devon Adoption service has children ranging in ages from six months to eight years, including sibling groups, waiting for a loving, safe, permanent home.
The service has, this year, cut the length of time it takes to approve adoption applications in a move to make the process simpler, and to encourage more adoptive parents to come forward.
Ahead of Mark Tyler's head shave for his adoption charity, Families for Children, fellow Patron Caroline Quentin offered to chop off the first lock!
Mark will be losing his hair this coming Friday 4 October, at 1pm in Princesshay.
Ally Colton, Fundraising & Publicity Co-ordinator said "this is a wonderful way for Mark to celebrate his 50th birthday - by raising funds for the adoption charity which successfully placed him."
More details about Mark's adoption story can be found on the charity's website www.familiesforchildren.org.uk
