Rusty Pig teams up with Devon Freewheelers

Ethical butchers and restaurant Rusty Pig has announced a charity partnership with emergency couriers Devon Freewheelers for 2015.

Chef Robin Rea and his team are busy planning various events to be held at the Ottery St Mary eaterie throughout the year, including quizzes and themed dining.

Robin said: “I’ve been aware of the charity for some time and I really admire the selfless work carried out by the volunteer riders. They do a great job for the people of Devon, and I’m delighted to support them.”

Hotel team don Christmas jumpers for charity

This Friday the nation will be swept with festive fever for Save The Children’s National Christmas Jumper Day.

The team at The Magdalen Chapter will be wrapping up in festive knitwear and donating to the cause. Hotel guests also wearing a Christmas jumper on Friday will be treated to a free mince pie with every hot drink throughout the day.

Intensive Care Unit launches charity cookbook

David Cameron, Michael Caines and Rick Stein are just some of the big names who have provided recipes for ‘Intensive Food’, a charity cookbook in aid of the Intensive Care Unit Trust Fund at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital.

The recipe book, which contains a collection of over 300 recipes from ICU staff, friends and special celebrity guests, was launched on 4th the December at an event in the ICU. Nails and massages leads to £900 for cats

On Friday 17th October 2014 the Friends of Axhayes group held a charity pamper evening at the Cat & Fiddle Inn, Clyst St Mary, Nr Exeter. The doors opened at 6.45pm and treatments started at 7pm. Many local businesses provided short treatments such as mini facials, file and paint, hand & foot massages etc to help raise funds for Exeter Axhayes Cats Protection adoption centre. Santander donation boosts education for deaf children

Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education has received £2,220 to fund new equipment for its Sensory Pod to support students’ physical and emotional development needs.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation, which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

Pamper evening raises £460 for bike heroes

An evening of indulgence at Otter Nurseries was held in aid of an emergency courier charity.

Around 80 guests came along to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, three delicious mini desserts and a raft of other delights including mini massages by Butterflies Studio.

The evening was organised by the garden centre to raise funds for the Devon Freewheelers, which provides a free, out-of-hours service to the NHS delivering medical necessities including blood and tissue samples.

The Exeter and East Devon Business Club was instrumental in raising funds of £1500 after hearing an impassioned plea from Sarah Smith of Hospiscare.

During a talk at one of the club’s lunches earlier this year, Sarah explained she was looking for 20 companies to raise £1000 each in order to fit out the kitchen for the new day hospice in Honiton.

The organisations which raise money during Exeter Chiefs’ home games have been selected for the new rugby season.

This year, 19 organisations will have the chance to assist in the coordination and collection of the funds at Sandy Park. These funds are ring-fenced specifically for these organisations and are distributed at the end of the season at the Exeter Foundation annual presentation dinner.
