Pedal power comes to Exmouth later this month as static outdoor dynamo bikes – which can generate enough power to charge up mobile phones - are installed near the seafront.
Exmouth Town Council, East Devon District Council and a local resident have worked together to bring the unique £30,000 exercise bicycles, complete with a shelter, to the town. Not only will the bikes help keep people fit, they will generate electricity too with small lights showing how much power your hard pedalling has produced.
The bicycles, which are being installed in the sunken gardens next to The...
Fifteen hundred cyclists will be heading out of Topsham on Sunday June 28 in an event that has raised more than £300,000 for local cancer charity FORCE in the past four years.
They will leave the rugby club from 8am onwards to tackle 100 or 55 mile routes around the Devon countryside on the annual Nello ride.
This is the biggest fundraising event in the charity’s calendar and its popularity attracts riders back year after year.
Adele Needham from Exeter, an emergency planner for Devon and Cornwall with the Environment Agency, has ridden the shorter course for the...
Cyclists are being asked to take “Moor care” when out and about in Dartmoor National Park this summer with the launch of a cyclists code of conduct.
The National Park has seen a steady increase in the popularity of cycling, both “off road” along moorland bridleways and designated trails, as well as a boom in road cycling across Dartmoor.
The leaflet provides guidance on cycling on moorland roads, narrow lanes, “off-road” routes, including public bridleways and designated trails, and stresses the importance of riding considerately, respecting farming operations and other...
Exeter Wheelers; the long established cycling club of Exeter, will be holding their first Hill Climb Festival on Saturday 19th September. With Exeter hosting the Tour of Britain for the last two years in a row, cycling fever has never been stronger in the city, and this year Exeter Wheelers will continue the passion by running a day of events celebrating one of cycling’s unsung racing disciplines; hill climbing. Hill climbing is a long running tradition that first started in the UK over 100 years ago; a simple race against the clock, pitting individual riders against the hill. Exeter...
Work on the latest phase of the Stop Line Way walking and cycling route has started this week (Monday 8 June).
The one kilometre section which will be developed by Devon County Council over the next 16 weeks, will provide an off-road connection from the cemetery, near Marsh Lane, in Seaton, to Colyford Common near the junction of Seaton Road/Popes Lane, in Colyford.
The route was granted planning permission in September 2011.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “This is another important step in the development...
A section of the Exe Estuary Trail cycleway between Turf Locks and Church Road, Powderham is planned to close between Monday 08 June and Monday 15 June in order to complete the final surfacing of the cycle path.
Due to the maintenance, both the cycle path and public footpaths will be closed for most of the period. Because there is no suitable diversion route available, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to avoid this section of cycleway for the duration of the closure.
Notices alerting the public to the closure will be positioned at several points along the Exe Estuary...

Everyone who registers online and logs a cycle ride of at least 10 minutes during the...
It seems hard to believe that it is a year since Velo Vintage was last in Exmouth.
Since then they have held their unique cycle events in Exeter and also in the north of the county in Barnstaple, but Exmouth has always felt like the home of Velo Vintage and where the first Occasion & Ride took place.
Rumour has it that this next event on Saturday 13 June, which is the eighth, is going to be rather different and as well including many of the excellent cycle paths, they will also be spending some time relaxing over a picnic and watching some cricket, all very British. The...
Ringtons Velo Vintage returns to Exmouth again this summer and it just seems to get bigger and better each time.
There will be live music from three bands, cream teas, a vintage style events village and up to 500 cyclists who will ride one of two routes.
The event is making its home in the Manor Gardens, which are just a few minutes from the seafront and town centre. It’s an opportunity to step back in time and enjoy the company of like minded cyclists over a cup of tea and cake as well as lots more.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to own a vintage bicycle, if your bike...
