Tour of Britain: East Devon spectators guide

Spectators have 174km (108miles) of Devon’s roads to choose from when it comes to watching the Devon Stage Tour of Britain on Monday 3 September.

The race is being hosted by Devon County Council, supported by East Devon District Council and North Devon Council and working with Cranbrook Town Council and Barnstaple Town Council. Stage 2 of the race starts in one of the UK’s newest towns, Cranbrook in East Devon and finishes in Barnstaple, North Devon. Cranbrook gears up for Tour of Britain

Young people across Cranbrook have brought new meaning to the term ‘recycling’ by creating an eye-catching and colourful town-wide public art display from old bikes.

In all 14 bikes have been painted, decorated and placed around the town – and now visitors are being challenged to find them all. The bikes have been decorated by members of the Cranbrook Youth Group, Youth Genesis and students from Cranbrook Education Campus and St Martins Primary School, with each bike painted in the colours of one of the competing teams. City businesses cycle for charity

Exeter Business Club’s chosen charity this year is CEDA, the Exeter based organisation that offers learning and social opportunities to disabled adults and children. CEDA’s Craig Bowden, seen here centre left, received a cheque for £1,500 from the club’s secretary Ben Didier.

Every year EBC chooses a city-based charity as their chosen cause. Funds are raised through membership fees and a variety of social events. Club members even joined in CEDA’s recent cycling challenge by riding three static bikes and pedalling away throughout one of their meetings.

National Cycle Network to undergo major makeover

THE National Cycle Network (NCN) will undergo a major review of its walking and cycling routes to ensure they meet the highest design standards and offer the best experience to the millions of families, commuters and tourists who use it every year.

Travel Devon has joined forces with IKEA to help workers at its new Exeter superstore commute to work in a more sustainable and healthy way.

IKEA Exeter opened in the beginning of May and Travel Devon, Devon County Council’s travel advice service, is giving the store’s workers the tools to make informed choices on travelling in a sustainable way. Back from the scrapheap: Ride On cycling for all ages gives old and unloved bikes another life

Discarded old bikes are being turned back into fit to ride machines thanks to an initiative in Exeter. Exeter City Council has teamed up with Exeter-based charity Ride On Cycling For All to get more and more people cycling more often. Old and unloved bikes found dumped around the city or picked up as part of the Council’s Bulky Waste collections are sent to Ride On, who refurbish them to a high standard and put them up for sale at very affordable prices to achieve their charitable aim of getting more people riding more affordable bikes more often. Tour of Britain Stage 2 marked by historic race through Victorian market

World class cyclists will race through the South Molton Pannier Market in September – the first time in the history of the modern Tour of Britain that it is has been routed through a building.

Stage 2 of the race will take place on Monday September 3, starting in the UK’s newest town, Cranbrook, in East Devon and finishing in Barnstaple, North Devon.

CEDA enabler Andrew White excelled in the military but shortly after achieving his goal of being accepted into the elite unit Coldstream Guards he suffered an injury that ended his Army career.

At the 2017 Invictus Games he cycled his way to gold in the men’s road cycling IRB 3 criterium. He crossed the line in a time of 28 minutes 21 seconds to take first place. Andrew has been selected to represent TeamGB again in the 2018 Invictus Games taking place in Sydney Australia.
