Rent a beach hut for the day, or week, at Budleigh Salterton

Seaside lovers can now rent one of the new beach huts for the day (or week if they fancy) at Budleigh Salterton.

The new ‘short-term hire’ beach huts have been commissioned and funded by East Devon District Council (EDDC) and include five large huts and seven small ones - were put up this week, replacing old structures that had come to the end of their natural life.

The general public will be able to make bookings through the Budleigh Information Centre from the 1 April until 23 October 2022.

Multi-award-winning brownie business to open café and shop in Okehampton

Award-winning brownie company, Love Brownies, is set to win the hearts, and stomachs, of the market town of Okehampton, with the launch of its brand-new café and shop on Fore Street.

Established in 2009, Love Brownies is adored for its decadent brownies and seasonal menus, which are available across its UK stores and cafés, as well as online.

The Okehampton store, which will be open to the public from Thursday 17th March, will mark the opening of the brand’s 18th café, with more set to be unveiled in the coming months as part of the company’s ambitious UK expansion....

At a recent meeting in County Hall Exeter, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Devonshire David Fursdon was invited to sign the “Armed Forces Covenant” together with Ian Kingsbury JP Head of the Devonshire Freemasons

COVID-19 inpatient numbers approach new high as numbers double in a fortnight

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 in Devon has risen to 292, with a further 37 patients awaiting test results; double the figure from a fortnight ago and higher than at any other point in the pandemic. High COVID-19 numbers are having a very significant impact across Devon’s health and care system.

The last time COVID-19 numbers were this high was in January 2021, before most people had the benefit of COVID-19 vaccines.

Four COVID-19 patients are currently in intensive care, far fewer than previously, thanks to the success of the incredible COVID-19 vaccine...

Community tree planting success in the Clyst Valley

Over 130 volunteers of all ages gathered at West Clyst farm to plant 1,000 new trees to help enhance the Clyst Valley.

The volunteers, including 60 children from West Clyst Community Primary School, joined East Devon District Council's Clyst Valley Regional Park team to plant a selection of native trees and shrubs to recreate a historic orchard, half an acre of woodland and a new hedgerow in the heart of the Clyst Valley.

Steve Brown, Devon's Director of Public Health, is urging people to stay at home if they feel unwell, with coronavirus, or symptoms of other illnesses that could be infectious.
