290 new affordable homes for local people in Devon

Local housing association Aster Group is set to build 290 new affordable homes in Devon after securing nine new development deals, representing one of its biggest ever single investments in the county.

The new affordable homes for local people will be built in locations including:

  • 102 in Cranbrook, Exeter
  • 61 in Matford, Exeter
  • 22 in Swan Park, Dawlish
  • 17 Mead Park, Bickington
  • 17 Larkbear Tawcroft in Barnstable.

Exeter Recycling Scheme wins National Award

Exeter City Council and Exeter City Football Club (ECFC) have won a national recycling award for their innovative scheme, Cans 4 City, which encourages Exeter football fans to recycle used drink cans while also raising money for charity.

The team behind Cans 4 City were presented with a Green Can Award by not-for-profit Every Can Counts in recognition of their outstanding recycling efforts.

Following a period of growth, Azets, the UK’s largest regional accountancy firm and business advisor to SMEs, has announced four promotions in the South Molton office.

Lewie Parker , Carl Power and Georgia Bere have all been promoted to Assistant Manager, having each been with the company for over five years and individually passing the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) exams. Illegal tobacco seized in raids across the region

Trading Standards has seized illegal tobacco worth more than £31,000 from six shops across Devon, Plymouth, and Somerset.

Supported by Avon & Somerset Police and Devon and Cornwall Police, officers from T he Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service used specialist detection dogs to find the tobacco in a series of raids last month (December).

Full steam ahead on Marsh Barton rail station construction

Work on Marsh Barton railway station is progressing well and remains on track for completion next winter.

Construction on the station, which is located near the Energy from Waste plant on the eastern edge of Marsh Barton, started last spring.

Exeter-based broadband company, Jurassic Fibre, has helped raise money for Devon charity Hospiscare by helping them swap Christmas trees for cash.

The award-winning telecoms company, which is currently delivering gigabit connectivity to overlooked communities across the South West, supported Hospiscare by volunteering staff members and vans to assist in the charity’s Christmas Tree Recycling fundraiser.

FoodCycle , the charity that aims to make food poverty, loneliness and food waste a thing of the past for every community, is in urgent need of volunteers. This month, FoodCycle will invest in a national recruitment campaign to try to entice more people to join them.

A Dartmoor woodland has been given a tidy-up thanks to a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers.
