Record £83.6 million Government funding for roads

Devon County Council has welcomed a record £83.6 million “early Christmas present” from the Government for road repairs. The funding of £83,640,000 for Devon is the largest share of a record £1.6 billion investment announced by the Government today (Friday 20 December) to fill potholes and repair roads. An extensive repair programme using this latest funding will be compiled over the next couple of months to help tackle the highway maintenance backlog on Devon’s 8,000 mile road network, which is currently in excess of £200 million. NatWest has introduced a new way for its customers to support Social Bite in the fight against homelessness this festive season.

Through its mobile app based MyRewards programme, customers can now easily donate their available Rewards (over £5) to buy someone experiencing homelessness a Christmas dinner with Social Bite. NatWest has also pledged to match all donations to any of its 16 MyRewards charities, including Social Bite, up to the value of £50 until 31st December, up to a total of £150,000.

Trowers & Hamlins has advised on the acquisition of the historic Royal Clarence in Exeter Cathedral Yard, which is now set to be restored to its former glory with work starting nine years after the hotel was ravaged by fire in 2016.

As we enter the holiday season Devon and Cornwall Police is reminding drivers to stay safe on our roads and not to consume drink or drugs if you are driving.

Stores in Exeter have been overwhelmed by the generosity of customers who donated at the Tesco Winter Food Collection.

There were 6,159 meals’ worth of long-life food items donated at the collection between 25-30 November in large and Express stores.

Every item donated in Exeter provides much-needed support for charities FareShare and Trussell in the run-up to Christmas.

Devon carers have been honoured for more than one thousand years of dedicated service to the Southern Healthcare care group.
