New research from Confused.com reveals that nearly half of Brits (49%) keep a household item as weapon to defend themselves from burglars – as pots and pans take on a whole different purpose. The findings from the leading insurance price comparison site reveal that of those who admit to owning some form of weapon, two-thirds (66%) are not afraid to use it in self-defence against an intruder in the event of a break-in. House sales hit three-and-a-half year peak, says RICS residential market survey

The amount of homes sold in the UK over the past three months reached its highest level since January 2010 as buyers across the country began to return to the market, says the latest RICS residential market survey (11 June 2013).

Chartered surveyors in the UK sold on average 17.9 properties during the three months to May. Firefighters promote gas safety after incident

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is warning of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning after attending an incident in Wellington, Somerset, on Saturday night.

Extremely high levels of carbon monoxide were found within a house on Longforth Road and one person was feeling sick awaiting the arrival of an ambulance. Four people were taken to hospital with carbon monoxide symptoms. When crews arrived, a carbon monoxide detector was sounding and the family had left the house.

Mortgage rates have fallen to their lowest level ever

Average mortgage rates have fallen to their lowest levels ever, particularly within the fixed rate market bringing some welcome news to thousands of frustrated borrowers who have previously found themselves priced out of the market.

According to research by Moneyfacts.co.uk, five-year fixed rates have dropped from 6.00% in February 2010 to 4.14% today, marking a 1.86% fall. In the two-year fixed market, the average rate has fallen from 4.82% to 4.11% over the same period.
