Barratt Homes in Exeter has celebrated National Tree Week with the planting of an oak tree to mark 7,300 trees planted by the division in the last 12 months.

“We have planted or retained more than 7,300 trees or shrubs at our developments throughout the south west and wanted to mark our ongoing commitment to the environment,’’ said managing director Paul Moran. “National Tree Week is a great reminder to everyone about the value of trees and at Barratt we take great care of the local environment.”

As 90 percent of Brits admit to decorating their home and garden in the next few weeks, less than a quarter (23 percent) would consider the impact this might have on the electrics in their home.

Meet cats in need of homes at charity event

Cat fans in Exeter will have a chance to meet some fantastic felines in need of new homes at a special cat rehoming event being held by Blue Cross pet charity on Saturday 17th October at the Isca Centre in Whipton, from noon until 3pm. Residents of Sandford, near Crediton, are celebrating after the official opening of affordable new homes in the village. Summerfield Developments have recently completed work on the Creedy View development set in the Mid-Devon countryside.

Thousands of elderly risk death from electrical fires

Older people in the UK are disproportionately at risk from electrical hazards, according to research by leading charity, Electrical Safety First.

The Charity has found that a person over 60 is ten times more likely to die in a fire than somebody aged 17 to 24. And more than half of the accidental fire-related deaths last year in Great Britain were people aged 65 and olderii.

“Half of all accidental electrical fires are caused by misuse, so they are preventable,” said Phil Buckle, Director-General of Electrical Safety First. “

An Exeter-based charity held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open their two new zero carbon energy ‘Satellite’ Landlord Supported Living Houses.

New research has today revealed the shocking numbers of private renters in the South West suffering at the hands of a rogue landlord, with approximately 80,000 experiencing an act by their landlord that could have resulted in legal action.

The survey by Shelter and YouGov revealed alarming reports from renters including landlords threatening, harassing or assaulting them, cutting off utilities, and entering their homes without permission.
