Fire Service called to Marshland Rescue

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to a dramatic incident today ( Saturday 18th January) after a woman got trapped in a marsh whilst walking her dogs.

The incident took place at 11.14 am.

Fire Control received a 999 call from a local woman who whilst out walking her three dogs at Abbeyford Woods just north of Okehampton accidently wandered into marshland resulting in her becoming stuck in the marsh and slowly sinking.

Distressed and suffering from the onset of hypothermia the caller was slightly disorientated and was unable to give the fire...

Extra buses between Exeter and Okehampton

Two extra late evening bus journeys will between Okehampton and Exeter 6 days a week.

Funding from Devon County Council will service to run two extra journeys on the X9 service from Exeter each evening, Monday to Saturday at 7:50pm and 9:45pm.

There are also return journeys from Fore Street Arcade in Okehampton to Exeter at 9pm and 11pm.

Police renew appeal for witnesses following lorry collision on A30

At approximately 6.10am on Thursday 10 October a road traffic collision took place involving two lorries on the west bound A30 at Meldon Dip, near to Okehampton. A white Scania rigid goods vehicle was stationary in lane one of the dual carriageway, having broken down, and was struck to the rear by another large articulated goods vehicle. Two lorries involved in collision on the A30 near Okehampton

Update at 12pm: Road is now fully open.

Reported earlier today: One lane remains closed on the A30 near Okehampton after two lorries collided at around 6.10am on Thursday 10 October.

The drivers of both drivers were taken to hospital; both are believed to have leg injuries which are not thought to be life threatening or life changing.

The collision occurred between the B3260 turning and Sourton Cross, westbound. Police say the recovery of the vehicles is underway.

Appeal for witnesses after motorcyclist dies in collision near Okehampton

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died following a collision near Okehampton at the weekend.

The fatal collision happened shortly after 4.20pm on Sunday 6 October on the A386 outside Lower Lodge, Merton, near Okehampton.

Police report that a 44-year-old local man, riding a Suzuki GSXR, was travelling in the direction of Torrington from Meeth with a group of other motorcyclists.

The rider is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle on a bend and impacted with a low bank. No other vehicles were involved.

Survey takes to the skies over Devon

The Tellus South West survey has now started in Devon. It involves a small aircraft flying at low altitude over the landscape, gathering geophysical data from the air. The survey is progressing steadily eastwards across the region, and may make one or two overflights over your property, but once these are completed the aircraft will not return. Puzzletree hosts sports day for all

The Puzzletree in Okehampton is hosting a fun day of sport on Monday 24 June from 10am-4pm.

This year’s event is the third in succession that the Puzzletree has organised for people with learning disabilities.

The fun day is free to attend, and includes a variety of sports to encourage people to try new activities, as well as those they already enjoy.
