Rail passengers are set to benefit from better and faster journeys after the government gave the go-ahead for a brand new fleet of trains running between London and Cornwall.

The deal will allow First Great Western to buy 29 new long-distance trains to serve the South West from 2018.

Fire crews were called to a fire at a property in Generals Close, Starcross at around noon today.

Three appliances from Middlemoor, Dawlish and Teignmouth were mobilised following a call from the occupant of a property reporting that their cooker was on fire.

On arrival firefighters entered the ground floor kitchen with 2BA and one hose reel jet, before confirming that this was a small fire involving the grill pan.

Once out crews ventilated the socially rented property, confirming that damage was light fire damage to the grill pan only, before leaving duty of care...

A crow had to be freed by fire crews after getting its head stuck between solar panels in Tiverton this morning (Saturday 25 July).

The crow had become trapped, by its head, between two solar panels on the roof of a two storey house in Palmerston Park.

A fire appliance from Tiverton was mobilised following a request from an RSPCA warden who was in attendance at the property.

Firefighters rescued the cow using a ladder, a roof ladder and safe working at heights equipment.

Duty of care was left with the RSPCA warden.

The Royal British Legion is calling on veterans of the Afghanistan conflict to take part in a parade that will follow the Service of Commemoration being held to mark the end of combat operations at St Pauls Cathedral on Friday (13 March).
