Exeter kept up their challenge for top spot in the Devon RFU Colts Shield competition hosting Brixham at Withycombe RFC. This season the boys have been rewarded with kit sponsorship from Astley Media, who have kindly provided warm up tops and playing shorts and socks.

They took to the pitch with pride in their new clothing. The ground staff at Withy had done a good job and the pitch was in great condition considering the atrocious weather we had after Christmas.

Plans for Exeter's new Deaf Academy revealed at RAMM

The lead architect behind the ground-breaking plans for Exeter’s new Deaf Academy revealed the Design Team’s inspiration at an event at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum on Wednesday 6 March.

Professor Alex de Rijke, founding director of dRMM and Dean of Architecture at the Royal College of Art, explained how the award-winning architects use natural light, colour and space in their projects. British Transport Police launches new non-emergency text number

You can now text the British Transport Police (BTP) on 61016 to tell them about non-emergency incidents, similar to the ones you would report to the 101 phone number provided by your local police force. In an emergency always dial 999.

The text number will be monitored 24/7 and, while it is not for reporting emergencies, the BTP says it will be able to send officers if required.

Man arrested on suspicion of murder in Torquay

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Torquay. Police were called to a property in Shelley Avenue at 6.40am today (6 March) and discovered the body of a 54-year-old woman. The man has been taken to Torbay District Hospital but remains in police custody.

A police investigation is underway and scenes of crime officers are conducting an examination of the property today. The cause of death has yet to be established and next of kin have not yet been informed.

Thomas Cook announces 2,500 jobs to go in effort to revive profitability

As part of its ongoing Business Transformation, Thomas Cook Group plc has announced that it has began a consultation process to restructure its UK business, which would see the Group's UK workforce reduced by 2,500 full-time roles. Job losses would mostly be from back-office functions and its retail network, including some store closures. However it has not yet been revealed which stores are to close.

Insurer launches horse transport safety campaign

South West insurer Cornish Mutual has launched a campaign to improve the safety of horses during transport. Called HorseSafe, the campaign is being run in partnership with the specialist animal rescue team at Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.
