One third of the way through your season and you are probably bored of your warm up. Don't worry: only another 6 months to go!
When working with athletes I stress the importance of the warm up as something to get better at, not something to get through. I use 4-5 different warm up themes, and add smaller variations as the season goes on.
Here are some ideas:
Use gymnastics as part of the warm up: rolling, tumbling and balancing.
Get on the ground and off the ground, don't keep in one plane of movement.
Work is continuing at the Grand Western Canal where the water levels of the lake are dropping and currently pose no there significant safety risk or concerns.
The Devon Fire and Rescue Service is pulling out and South West Highways will be setting up a road closure for this to happen this morning.
Police have arranged for a Chinook helicopter to collect a large pump today and will also be controlling a rolling road block on the A361 so that the pump can be delivered to a lay-by for collection.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has called for the Government to commit to a joint solution to ensure long-term affordable flood insurance for high-risk households.
The ABI has described the current state of talks aimed at reaching an agreement as being at an impasse. This follows the Government’s refusal to consider providing a temporary overdraft facility to a proposed not-for-profit special insurance fund for 200,000 high-risk households which will otherwise struggle to get affordable household insurance when the current arrangements come to an end next year....
Surf Life Saving GB, a charity of more than 6,000 volunteers helping to make the country’s beaches safer places, is celebrating moving into its new offices following a fire in Exeter’s Southernhay three weeks ago (2nd November).
A fire in the ground floor of its shared office building in Southernhay, meant Surf Life Saving GB’s national headquarters were deemed unsafe and the charity was effectively made immediately homeless.
As a charity, there is very little cash kept in reserve, with the majority being reinvested into projects to help educate and train...
Conditions are improving today across Devon's major road network, but highways engineers are concerned that sub zero temperatures later in the week will further compound damage to the network.
Highways teams have been out again early this morning, scouting the major road network, identify problems and clearing up.
In Barnstaple, the A377 has been closed due to flooding, as is the A399 due to a minor landslide.
The A396 at Cove is closed due to flooding.
The A377, Exeter to Crediton is passable with care.
New research shows that concerns about governmental failure to act effectively and fairly in the aftermath of extreme weather events can affect the degree to which residents are willing to protect themselves.
The findings of a team led by scientists at the University of Exeter could prove key to establishing how society should evolve to cope with more turbulent weather and more frequent mega storms.
The team examined attitudes in Cumbria in north west England and Galway in western Ireland, which were both hit by heavy flooding in November 2009. Record...
As the new payday lending customer charter is launched, Citizens Advice Bureaux across the country are today releasing new figures demonstrating a worrying increase in the number of serious debt cases relating to payday loans.
The Citizens Advice service has seen a ten-fold increase in the proportion of clients receiving casework help with multiple debts which included a payday loan debt in the last four years. In the first quarter of 2009/10 only one per cent of CAB debt casework clients had at least one payday loan and in the same quarter last year this had risen to four per cent...
Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is reminding people to pay attention to their safety at home during the current adverse weather conditions.
The Service continues to respond to emergency incidents as usual despite the challenging conditions. However, due to some roads being blocked or difficult to pass, it may take longer for appliances to attend certain locations.
Residents are reminded to pay attention to their safety during these challenging times by following this advice:
Risk of evacuation for home owners in Halberton has receded, as Fire Brigade pumps are successfully lowering the level of flood water in a field adjacent to the breached Grand Western Canal.
Reinforced dams at either side of the breach are holding up.
Pumps are also removing water from the eastern end and western end of the canal to help regulate canal water levels.
Depth of the water, and the condition of the embankment is being constantly monitored, and the Council is hoping to reopen the road from Halberton to Sampford Peverell later this afternoon,...
