Devon authors to share tricks of the trade

Three Devon authors, who are all members of the same writing group, will be sharing their experience of the rocky road to publication, in an attempt to help other writers get published.

Yaara Lahav Gregory, Anna Lunk, and Sophie Pierce will be in conversation at Exeter Central Library next month (March 12th), in an event entitled One Writers’ Group: Three Routes to Publication.

Back for 2021 - a new chapter for ExeLitFest

Momentum is gathering for a three-day literary event in Exeter later this year after a hiatus because of the pandemic. Last year’s Exeter Literary Festival sadly had to be shelved, but now ExeLitFest (as it’s known for short) is delighted to unveil this year’s programme and open the Box Office.

Six young writers to be awarded prizes for their writing by author Michael Morpurgo

After judging over 100 entries from across the South West, Literature Works is pleased to announce the six winners of the Quay Words Trading Places Flash Fiction Competition.

Young writers in two age categories were tasked with producing very short pieces of creative writing, 250 words for 14-18 year olds and 500 words for 10-14 year olds. Three talented young writers have placed first, second and third in each category. They have won cash prizes and publication in the forthcoming Quay Voices #1 Anthology of new writing from Exeter Custom House. The winners were:

Exeter School is welcoming three authors to school for World Book Day.

To celebrate the theme of Imaginary Worlds, pupils in Exeter Junior School will be carrying out story telling workshops with Katy Cawkwell on Thursday 4 March.

Storyteller Katy creates performances for adult, family and school audiences, based on traditional source material and has worked regularly in a wide range of schools, museums and other organisations, including Royal Opera House, English National Opera, The Barbican, The British Museum, The Museum of London and The National Gallery.

Call for seven authors to be banned from Jaipur Literary Festival

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a right-wing pro-Hindu NGO linked to the BJP political party, have joined their party in wanting seven Pakistani authors banned from attending the Jaipur Literature Fest after recent troubles in the Line of Control where one Pakistani soldier and two Indian soldiers died.

Separately, organisers of the Jaipur Literature Festival were warned against allowing authors who had read out passages from Salman Rushdie's 'Satanic Verses' at the event last year by Islamist groups.
