Lord Mayor thanks Exeter Philharmonic Choir for its fundraising

Members of Exeter Philharmonic Choir, which has recently raised money for the Lord Mayor's charity SSAFA Devon, attended a special reception and cheque presentation at the city’s Guildhall last week.

The event was to thank all the organisations who have contributed to a grand total of over £23,000 for SSAFA Devon, which provides practical and emotional support for serving personnel, veterans and military families. A collection held at Exeter Philharmonic Choir’s concert in March raised £726.66 for the charity.

Exeter Philharmonic Choir heads to the Northcott for its summer concert

The last major composition written by the Italian composer Rossini, his Petite Messe solonnelle, will be performed by Exeter Philharmonic Choir in June as part of its summer concert at the Northcott Theatre - a performance combining musical drama and colourful, memorable tunes.

Rossini’s Mass is a work of contrast and intensity, written five years before his death in Paris 151 years ago. Despite its title, it is neither ‘small’ nor ‘solemn’ but reflects the great talent which saw Rossini produce 39 operas in his lifetime.

Rachel Hamilton, 27 from Exeter, is a Hospiscare staff nurse and has been working for the local charity on the ward at Searle House for two years. At the end of 2018 Rachel married Ben Turner who also has connections to Hospiscare volunteering as a Trustee.

The wedding took place at Dartington Hall at Christmas and as Rachel is a member of the Hospiscare Choir it seemed only natural to ask the Choir to sing during their ceremony. Rachel who has always loved singing, joined the Hospiscare choir’s soprano section as soon as she became a Hospiscare nurse.

Choir raises over £4,000 for Exeter homeless charity

Members of Exeter Philharmonic Choir visited St Petrock's this week to present a cheque worth £4,086 to the charity which provides support, housing and prevention services for people who are homeless or vulnerably housed

The money was raised over two consecutive nights in December in the retiring collection at Exeter Cathedral following the Choir's annual carol services.

Exeter choir presents an evening to remember

Exeter Male Voice Choir will be presenting An Evening to Remember at St Peter's School in Quarry Lane on Saturday November 10 (7:30-9:15).

It is a joint concert which also features the young musicians of Lympstone Training Band, who will be playing traditional favourites.

The choir will perform popular modern songs and some James Bond theme tunes accompanied by guest soloist, soprano Penny Smith-Wiseman. The event will be raising funds for FORCE Cancer Charity, Haemochromatosis UK and, as it is on the eve of Armistice Day, the Royal British Legion.

CLIC for Christmas 2018 - final lineup revealed

On 4th October, the finalists from the Devon Schools Choir Competition, run by La La Choirs, took centre stage at Southernhay URC and competed for a chance to perform in Exeter Cathedral at the annual sell out concert, CLIC for Christmas. Three choirs had been shortlisted and the choirs at the final sang two songs each. Yet again, the standard was incredibly high, giving the judging panel a really hard time deciding between them.
