Have your say on draft plan for walking and cycling improvements in Exeter

A public consultation has been launched on ambitious proposals to enable and encourage more people to walk and cycle in Exeter.

People are being invited to have their say on the draft Exeter Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) which puts forward proposals for new walking and cycling routes as well as recommending improvements to the existing network in the Exeter area.

Queen Street cycle lane plans scrapped

Plans previously agreed to make the one-way layout of Exeter’s Queen Street permanent are being scaled back due to “significant increases” in costs.

In January, councillors agreed to spend £250,000 constructing a layout similar to the current ‘pop-up’ one, which was installed early in 2021 to help with social distancing and to encourage more walking and cycling.

Free cycling festivals for the whole family this summer

Exeter and Cranbrook residents looking for something to do this summer are in for a treat thanks to a series of free cycling festivals taking place in the city during the school holidays.

There are six events taking place throughout the summer, each one in a different location across the city and Cranbrook and all completely free for the whole family.

The events have been developed by Live and Move – the Sport England Local Delivery Programme running in Exeter and Cranbrook that aims to encourage residents to move more in their everyday lives – and Active Devon.

Alliance Healthcare teams cycle more than 1,000km across the UK with a starting line from Exeter to raise more than £40,000 for charity

During the sweltering heat, and blistering northern winds, two teams of cyclists completed Alliance Healthcare’s annual charity Tour D’Alliance cycle challenge. A team of riders from national law firm, Foot Anstey LLP, completed a two-day bike ride in support of the Disasters Emergency Committee's (DEC) Ukraine Appeal. The fundraisers have now raised over £5,000.

The South West will receive £2,236,741 to help more children learn to cycle with Bikeability.

The funding is part of a record £20 million investment for the Bikeability Trust from the Department of Transport. It will be used to deliver cycle training for children and families.

People from the south west are being asked to saddle up for a cycling challenge that will raise vital funds for Diabetes UK this spring.

The Tour of Britain will not return to Devon this year, but the county council hopes it will host stages again in the future.
