Staff at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe are hoping an overlooked rescue dog finds love this Valentine’s Day, after waiting almost four years for that special someone at the rehoming centre.

Lacey, the seven-year-old Collie is described by staff as a “wonderful dog” with tonnes of love to give, yet sadly continues to be ignored by potential adopters. Despite being showered with affection by her canine carers, nothing compares to finding that special home to call her own. Her carers and canine chums alike all have their fingers and paws crossed that she’ll be whisked off to her forever home...

Dumped dog found with ‘excruciating’ ear infection

RSPCA inspectors are investigating after a dog was found dumped with a severely infected ear in Exeter.

The dog warden collected Trixie, who is thought to be a Staffie Sharpei cross, who was left tied up outside the One Stop Shop on Topsham Road. They contacted the RSPCA after she was found to be suffering from a skin condition and a really bad ear infection on September 4.

Trixie is now being treated at an RSPCA centre for her infection and investigations are underway into what happened to her. It is hoped she will make a full recovery and eventually be rehomed.

Dog found injured on A38 may have escaped from home

Police investigating how a dog came to be found injured on the A38 near Exeter say they believe it may have escaped from its home.

Officers received reports that the dog had been thrown from a vehicle near Kennford services on Thursday afternoon.

The black King Charles Spaniel was found with broken legs. It is now thought the sustained its injuries by running across the road.

Police will now review CCTV to see if any light can be shed on how the dog got onto the road.

Dog allegedly thrown from car on A38

Police attended the services near Kennford, Exeter at around 2pm today after reports of a dog being thrown from a vehicle on the A38.

A black King Charles Spaniel was found injured in the area with suspected broken legs and has been since taken to the vets for treatment.

At this time, police only have third hand reports of how the dog came to be on the road and how it sustained its injuries.

If anyone has any information that can help police, we ask them to contact 101 quoting log number 397 for the 1st of September.

Dog rescued after 150ft cliff fall

A dog has been rescued after falling 150ft down a cliff in Devon.

The RSPCA were called on Thursday (June 23) by some local ‘coasteerers’ who had seen the dog in a cove at the bottom of cliffs in Noss Mayo.The charity liaised with the Coastguard to ensure nine-year-old Jack was rescued as quickly and safely as possible.

The dog's owners, who are from Ludlow in Shropshire, are on holiday in North Tawton, North Devon, and lost Jack while walking on the South Devon coast path on Wednesday (June 22).

For any responsible dog owner, peace of mind is a must when leaving a beloved pet in the care of others while on holiday or at work. Man drowns trying to rescue dog from sea

A man has died after trying to rescue his dog from the sea on New Year's Day.

The emergency sevices were alerted to people in difficulty in the water off Portmellon near Mevagissey at around 11am.

Two people were subsequently recovered from the sea.

One was recovered by a member of the public and brought to shore, the second person was recovered from the sea by the Coastguard helicopter and was taken to hospital.

The RNLI Lifeboat from Fowey and Mevagissey Coastguard Rescue Team were also in attendance.

RSPCA appeal after dog left tied to gate

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a young, female Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog was left tied to a gate in a secluded spot on Old Tiverton Road in Bampton, Devon, last Thursday (10 December).

The small, mostly black and white dog, who is thought to be around two to three years old, was initially discovered by a member of the public at around 6am on the morning of 10 December.
