Families for Children receive £1,000 from local Freemasons

Every Spring and Autumn Freemasons from around Devon gather to give support totalling £40,000 to local organisations who are in need of assistance, among which this year included Families for Children who support adopted children and their families throughout the South West.

Devon Adoption Information Morning November

The Buckfast office is open on one Saturday of every month where you can talk with our specialist adoption social workers and experienced adoptive parents about all aspects of adoption.

The next open morning is November 7th from 10am to 12 noon.

10am – 11am Presentation with the chance to hear from one of our adopters

11am – 12 noon Staff and adopters available for individual questions and discussion

Adoption enquiries fall

Enquiries from potential adopters are falling across Devon amid reports of fewer ‘young children’ being available.

Local Adoption Agency and charity, Families for Children, are appealing to those who have ever thought about adoption not to hold back, and possibly considering opening their hearts to an older child, sibling group or those with extra needs, who are waiting and will wait the longest.

Figures to the end of June this year show that despite being an abundance of approved adopters waiting they cannot be matched to the some 47 children in local authority foster care...

Families for Children are looking for adopters to come forward now.

There is no upper age limit for adoption, you can be married or single and you don’t have to own your own home.

The organiation is looking for people who have the room in their hearts and can offer a loving and secure family to children most in need. They are especially looking for those who may consider older children (over 4 years), sibling groups and children with disabilities.

Summer concert tickets up for grabs

Families for Children’s Chief Executive Officer, Caroline Davies, will be receiving an OBE award for her services to children across the South West from the Queen at a special ceremony onFriday.

Devon adoption agency looking for families to adopt children with disabilities and special needs

Approximately 40 per cent of children waiting for an adoptive family have impairment or some form of special need or disability. Family for Me is a new project launched by local adoption agency Families for Children which hopes not only to raise awareness of the children who are waiting the longest but to specifically recruit adoptive families for these children. Their first question asks whether you could adopt a child with a disability.
