A rare chance to hear live performances of some of Simon Belshaw's Music Machines. The works will be performed by Simon Belshaw, Julie Hill and Ruth Molins. Using a blend of contemporary and 1980s technology this is a concert of unique, experimental, electronic music not to be missed. The concert will feature Raspberry Pi computers, Casio Digital Horns and Yamaha wx midi wind controllers, Roland midi modules as well as flute and violin. New centre to boost business

Entrepreneurs, inventors and small businesses in Devon are set to benefit from a unique new support service. Exeter Library has been chosen to pilot a Business & Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) dedicated to supporting local entrepreneurs to start, run and grow their own businesses. The new centre will join the network of six others across the UK based on the successful British Library Business and IP Centre in London. Following the success of Winter Stories and Snow Crafts at Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park with Devon Libraries, the second event in the partnership has been announced. Spring Stories and Mother’s Day Crafts will take place at Devon’s Crealy on Wednesday 11th March 2015.

Guests of all ages are invited to join Buddy Bear and story tellers from Exeter Library at Mamma Mia’s Restaurant at Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park from 10am – 1pm for interactive spring time stories and creative Mother’s Day craft sessions.

The latest Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme will be launched across Devon’s libraries on 2 February, to support people with dementia and their carers.

The scheme, which already helps over 275,000 people across the country with common mental health conditions feel better through self-help reading, is now turning its attention to the enormous need for quality-assured support for dementia care in the UK.

St Thomas Library are holding a Local History Day on Wednesday 21 January from 11am-4pm.

Pilot community project launches with 12 libraries

Twelve communities across Devon have been chosen to take part in a pioneering new partnership project to test how they can support their local libraries and expand the services they provide.

Devon County Council will work with the dedicated community groups to help shape the new organisation and try out new ways of involving local people so they can have more say on how their library is run.

Those chosen include Colyton, Bampton, Moretonhampstead and Ottery St Mary.

Library plans get the go-ahead

Devon County Councillors today agreed plans aimed at keeping all the Council's libraries open and run by professional staff, despite significant reductions in the service's budget.

Members heard that Councils elsewhere have successfully transferred the delivery of their libraries to ‘mutuals’ or ‘trusts’ who run the libraries on the Councils’ behalf.

And that library staff, previously employed by those Councils, have been retained and continue to professionally run their libraries, with local communities having a greater say in how their libraries are run.
