Exeter Custom House announces new Cultural Partners

Exeter Canal and Quay Trust have appointed two local organisations as part of their latest Cultural Partners Programme, which will run from 2023 to 2026. Exeter Custom House and Transit Shed are home to a vibrant collection of arts and cultural events throughout the year – with many of them free for everyone to enjoy. To devise and host these programmes, Exeter Canal & Quay Trust commission Cultural Partnerships for three-year residencies.

New regeneration vision for Haven Banks retail park presented for public consultation

Exeter is set to have a vibrant new neighbourhood with new homes, retail and leisure facilities and new green space as part of regeneration proposals for Haven Banks retail park.

Experienced developer Coplan Estates and joint venture partner Welbeck CP have launched a public consultation to invite feedback on their plans for the regeneration of Haven Banks retail park at Water Lane and Haven Road, south of Exeter city centre.

NCS- Litter Prevention Project-Haven Banks

We are a group of students on the Outside Education course at Haven Banks in Exeter. We are currently taking part in an NCS Project, as part of the experience we have to come up with a social action project.

Our project idea is a Litter prevention movement, we are aiming to raise awareness of the harmful effect of litter on the environment and about making our city a nicer place to live in. Giant Camera captures large scale images on the Quay

Visitors to Exeter’s Quay will have the opportunity to view a series of ultra large scale photographic prints captured with a giant cameracreated out of one of the rooms at the Custom House.

The images taken by photographer Brendan Barry, along with a camera obscura and a video explaining the processes he used, will be on display at the Custom House as part of Heritage Open Days in September.

The project is being funded by the Exeter Canal and Quay Trust as part of an overall initiative to turn the Custom House into a Literature Hub.

First steps to replace old bridge on Exeter Quayside taking place

The first steps to replace an old bridge on Exeter Quayside that had come to the end of its life have taken place this week.

The wooden Mallison Bridge, which spans the medieval leats on the north bank of the River Exe, has been removed as its timbers had become rotten and unsafe to use.

Planning permission for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge was given in December 2018 and a new structure will be built as soon as adequate funding has been identified.

New extended bus service to Exeter Quayside

A new trial weekend bus service to Exeter’s Quayside is set to begin early next month. As part of a six-month trial, the H service will stop at the Quayside on Friday and Saturday evenings between 7pm and 11pm and on Sundays from 8:30am and 11pm. The trial service will begin on Friday 6 July. The extended service is being funded by the City Council, the Environment Agency, Devon County Council and the Exeter Quay and Canal Trust, who believe the trial will result in more people visiting the area. Bee creative at Devon Wildlife Trust’s family fun day

Devon Wildlife Trust is inviting families to ‘bee creative in the garden’ at a special wild bee family fun day next week. On August 3, the charity will be opening the gates to the Cricklepit Mill wildlife garden for a family event that aims to celebrate bumblebees and solitary bees, heroes of the pollinator world. Children will have the chance to create a range of bee themed craft items, including alder bees to hang in the garden, bee mobiles, badge making and bee jewellery.
