The school holidays are about to trigger the start of the busy summer getaway period for Exeter Airport and up to 25,000 passengers will be travelling through the terminal in the next seven days.

The week will see 12,500 passengers using the airport on variety of routes from the Isles of Scilly to as far away as Sharm el Sheikh.

South West flights from Exeter to St. Marys have increased to five a day and over the summer 11,000 passengers will use the service.

Flybe announce price lock-down scheme

Exeter-based Flybe has announced a new scheme which allows customers to book flights and to hold a "Price Lock-Down" fare for 24 hours before confirming and paying for their Flybe flight.

Travel planners will now have the benefit of being able to check and finalise all their travel details knowing that the price of a flight will held with the "Price Lock-Down". Customers may then confirm their held Fare within 24 hours by retrieving their Price Lock-Down booking on Flybe.com.

Two lanes closed on M5 northbound due to an overturned caravan

Update12.40: Both lanes are now reopened.

There are reports of 30-minute delays and two lanes closed on the M5 northbound at J30, A376 (Exeter), because of an overturned caravan and recovery work. Drivers are warned that there is congestion to J31, A30 (Exminster).

Multi-vehicle accident on the A38 on Haldon Hill

There is a lane closed and slow traffic on the A38 Haldon Hill northbound in Kennford between Harcombe Cross and Splatford Split, due to a three-vehicle collision.

If possible avoid the area, as traffic is reported to be backing up to Drumbridges.

Grecian Travel – Urgent Plymouth change

There has been a change to departure times for the Devon Derby against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday 30 March.

Fans that are travelling using the Grecian Travel coach service to Home Park this weekend should note that coaches will depart Arena Nightclub on Summerland Street at 10.30am, rather than 11am as originally stated.

The decision has been taken on the advice of the Devon & Cornwall Police. People that are getting on the coach at other collection points should also arrive 30 minutes earlier than previously advised.

Take care on the roads as conditions treacherous in places

Problems abound on the roads in and around Exeter this morning due to flooding. Drivers are advised to approach the A3015 Topsham Road in Countess Wear at Countess Wear Roundabout with care due to a Traffic light failure.

Drivers are also requested to take care on the A376 which is reported to be partially blocked in both directions between the A3052 junction in Clyst St Mary and the Featherbed Lane junction in Exmouth, because of flooding.

One person dead after car hit by Exeter to London train

Update 4pm: The earlier collision between the Exeter to London Paddington train is causing disruption between Taunton and Castle Cary. The line has reopened and trains are able to run, however, there may be delays of up to 30 minutes to journeys between Taunton and Westbury. These delays will continue until approximately 16:30.

Lorry fire closes the M5 Southbound between Junction 28 and 29

The Police say that they received a report at 5.44am this morning of a fire on the M5 Southbound involving an articulated lorry with a trailer. The Southbound carriageway between Cullopmton and Exeter was closed while the fire service dealt with the fire. Southbound traffic was diverted via the B3181. The northbound carriageway was also closed for a time and then limited to lane 1 due to the smoke but was re-opened at 7am. The southbound carriageway remained closed until 7.30am when lane 3 southbound was re-opened.

Approximately 50 vehicles were stationary southbound.

Landslip causes delays to First Great Western Trains

Update: Following an earlier landslip between Exeter Central and Exmouth all lines have now reopened.

Train services running through these stations are returning to normal but some services may still be delayed by up to 10 mins or revised at short notice. Disruption is expected until 11:30 29/01.
